Bright and beautiful
Red and yellow and pink and green… if anywhere will have you singing a rainbow, it’s Churton Place. The intense hues bring to mind the macarons of Ladurée, cupcakes and peppermint creams. If magnolia is your kryptonite, you’ll revel in these lush, opulent rooms with their playful fabrics and original features. Pimlico is majestically peaceful, its quiet streets wending down towards the river. You can walk to busy Victoria, Buckingham Palace, and the glamorous shops of Knightsbridge. Or, stay in – when you’re ensconced in a home this gorgeous, it’s all too easy to turn off your phone and spend the morning sprawled upon the velvet sofa.
Your host is a journalist, while your hostess devotes much of her time to charity. When they’re not here or at their second home, they’re visiting their two children at university.
In the sitting room, cheerful raspberry red and apple green sit side by side in happy harmony. The floor’s strewn with funky rugs, and you’ll find lovely art and loaded bookshelves along side original cornicing and iron fireplaces. The spacious kitchen is in the basement, and the lemon yellow walls keep things light and sunny. There are three candy-clad bedrooms, a twin, a double and the master suite. Here, the proportions are graceful, the bed is large, and best of all, beneath the archway is a sublimely decadent free standing roll-topped bath.
Walk to nearby Victoria for a quick breakfast in one of the many cafes around the station, then, do call in on your neighbour the Queen. A stroll through Green Park brings you through to Mayfair and Piccadilly, or turn the other way for Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Knightsbridge’s bars and boutiques. But if you’d rather save your shoe leather, the tube ride from Pimlico to Oxford Circus takes a mere seven minutes.
This London townhouse is spread over four floors, so there are quite a few stairs to tackle to reach the top.
Please note that the main bathroom is not located on the same floor as the bedrooms, and guests will have to descend two flights of stairs to reach it.
This home doesn't have air conditioning. Between June and September, we'll place fans in each bedroom. Please let us know if you'd like fans outside the summer period.
