For here’s a home that’ll put roses in your cheeks. Cosy and snug, while the street outside is pure London, once indoors, you’ll feel part of the English countryside - so lie back upon the sofa and be overcome with contentment. You’re close to the museums and Hyde Park, and the shops and restaurants of Knightsbridge will sing their siren song. So put your glad rags on and drink life to the lees, or take your glass to the garden, and sip champagne as crisp and cool as the evening air. If pleasure like this could be bottled, we’d order a case.
Glass half full
Your happy hosts are wine merchants, and they once had a vineyard in Bordeaux. They’ve lived in San Francisco and Hong Kong, and still love to travel, both for work and pleasure. Now, though, they spend much of their time in rural Leicestershire, and there’s a definite cottagey aesthetic at Cranley Gardens.
On the house
The sitting room sparkles with sunshine from the full length windows and skylight, and there’s a gorgeous blush in the candy striped sofa and rich creamy walls. Open the doors out into the patio garden, or stay inside and browse your hosts’ collection of books both contemporary and classic. The artwork is restful, while the kitchen is simple and well-equipped. The bedroom, too, has views into the patio garden, antique furniture and serene landscape paintings all adding to the atmosphere of deep, deep calm.
Grape and grain
You’re within staggering distance of the bars of Kensington, Knightsbridge and Chelsea, and, the morning after, you can soothe your hangover with a pastry from the artisan cafes of Gloucester Road. You’re surrounded by some of the best shops and restaurants in London, and the tube from Gloucester Road to Piccadilly Circus takes just ten minutes.
Your host's terrier sometimes visits this home, and so this home may not be suitable for allergy sufferers.
