Bonus points Call your friends and bring your brood, for this is a home that's at it's best when ricocheting with the sound of laughter. Spacious, welcoming rooms have been furnished in vibrant textiles, and there’s a definite African influence to the hand-carved furniture. Relaxed, funky and with plenty of modern touches, Mayfield Avenue II is just the place to let the little ones whizz around. There’s a mature garden, and you’re right next to Chiswick Common. When you’ve exhausted yourselves chasing that frisbee, retire to one of Turnham Green’s sweet cafes for a hot chocolate. Game over? We’d say it’s only just begun… Pinball wizards Your hosts are a young family with a love of games – witness the sitting room’s full sized pinball machine! Your hostess is from Kenya, while your host was born less than a mile away. He quickly realized that he was onto a good thing, and he’s been living in this corner of London ever since. Modern classic It's been said that the best designs cannot help but endure, and this home’s no exception. The late Victorian architecture is on display in every room, from the original cornicing to the cast iron fireplaces. The sitting room’s furnishings are witty in purple and hot pink, for those of a musical persuasion there’s a polished piano, and for everyone else, a large TV. The eat-in kitchen opens seamlessly out onto the back garden, where you’ve a Barbeque and outdoor furniture, while inside, the dining table seats up to ten. There are seemingly hundreds of spotlights, which glow and dip at the touch of a switch, and by day, sunshine floods in through the glass roof. Escape upstairs to the master bedroom where you’ll find its kingsized bed, and an adorable bench nestling in beneath the bay window. There are his and hers sinks in the contemporary ensuite, as well as a shower and bathtub and a pair of single rooms will be others in your party. A simple shower room and a family bathroom are both filled with White Company toiletries and fluffy towels, and up in the eaves there’s one last double bedroom, set peacefully apart from the hubbub below. The next level Turnham Green is a paradise of independent boutiques and offbeat stores. Sample some stunning homemade ice cream, grab a pizza or dine in style at Michelin starred La Trompette. Then, have a wander around Chiswick House, or watch the gulls glide across the Thames while you sup a pint in a waterside pub. And if you want to head into town, the tube from Turnham Green to Green Park takes just over twenty minutes.
