Carve out With exposed wooden beams, 19th-century antique furniture and a gilded mirror, the sitting room at Rue Francaise is carefully curated – and you’ll enter directly into it from the apartment’s front door. Here French doors rise up from stripped floorboards, and a wall carved from stone contrasts the silver candlesticks atop the dining table for five. A Buddha takes up residence in the fireplace, and the surfaces are brightened by bonsai trees, delicate orchids and mounted butterflies. Fur rugs and cushions cover the wide sofa next to the low-lying coffee table, and from here a corridor off to the left leads to a wood-panelled kitchen, the master bedroom and the first of two children’s room, this one with baby birds decorating a blue wall. The bathroom is at the end of this corridor, and you’ll find the other children’s room, and its set of bunk beds, through the door on the sitting room’s right-hand wall.
