Rue Godefroy Cavaignac

Bastille, Right Bank

Colourful history

Rue Godefroy Cavaignac’s past is a varied one – it was once a chandelier making factory in Bastille’s industrial days, and later an evangelical church rallied its congregation in the home’s high-ceilinged rooms. Now it’s painted with vivid tones and there are flamboyant antique pieces including a huge dining table and pretty writing desk. The sitting room is extraordinarily designed – you’ll find plump armchairs and a grand piano beneath the lofted beams. And the curving staircase leads to a mezzanine level lined with tomes.

Exciting chapter

Your hosts are a large family, and they’ve adapted Rue Godefroy Cavaignac to suit them all. Their favourite room is the bright sitting room, which has lots of space around their much-loved piano.

Dramatic twist

Through the rustic wooden shutters you’ll find the kitchen – the bright-yellow cabinets and white tiles are a refreshing mix, and the dining table chairs are brushed with sunny hues. Follow the corridor for three of the four bedrooms, including two singles and an unusual master bedroom. Here the floor is green-and-white tiled, the doors swing open onto the deck, and there’s a teal-hued ensuite hidden behind the shutters. The forth orange-hued bedroom and snug fill the first floor. The lively streets of Bastille are lined with modish bars and picturesque brasseries.
