Now and then, we all feel the pull of the bright city lights. Distant woodpeckers drumming the branches and sunken lanes hedged with wildflowers will wait while you pay the big smoke a visit. Hogarth Road is charming city pad– inside, sunlight dusts timber floors, horses gallop in the frames of artwork and photography, while magazines perch on elegant coffee tables and antique chests. Join the sparrows on the marvellously decked patio or head out for that languid town stroll through Earls Court and Knightsbridge. Here, you really can have it both ways.
Come live with me
A young couple, your hosts flit to the sleepy country each weekend to ride and walk their dogs. When they are in town, she works in the City, while he is an architect.
I vow to thee, my country
A mirrored hallway, dotted with funky books and photos, leads you to the open plan kitchen and sitting room. French doors bundle sunlight over the warm timber floor, while neutral tones keep things calmly sophisticated. Pluck a book from the coffee table, plump the cushions and snuggle down on the elegant sofa for a cosy read. You’ve a spotlessly smart kitchen flanked by a handy breakfast bar, but on sunny days the BBQ, which perches on the decked patio, might be even more tempting.
Country chic is to be found in the dining room too, with its deer-decked tablecloth, horse racing painting and antique writing desk. Later on, when the shadows lengthen, you’ve a rather splendid bedroom at your service, furnished with antiques and blessed with a beautiful bay window. The bathroom is lush, modern and jam-packed with our yummy White Company toiletries.
On the road
You won’t have to trek up hill and down dale to find amusement here. Earls Court boasts restaurants and eateries a-plenty, from the gorgeous French cuisine on the menu at Garnier to Evans & Peel Detective Agency, a quirky speakeasy. For shopping, there are few better districts than Knightsbridge or Kensington High Street, while you’re perfectly placed for the museums of South Ken. When it’s time to hit the city, you’ll find Earls Court tube station on your doorstep, from which you can whizz to Oxford Circus in less than twenty minutes.
Getting around London from this home could not be easier so you are moments from the tube, however there is noise from the trains throughout the day and into the night.
