From Darkest Peru
It was Mr and Mrs Brown who first happened upon a marmalade-loving bear in a station, and named him after it. And if Paddington Bear was one fortunate find, here’s another. Formerly home to Michael Bond, author of the treasured books, Holland Street II is as sunny and endearing as the stowaway bear himself. The decor is both daring and delightful: graffiti prints and chain curtains swaddle the piano, while antiques and watercolours blush with tradition. You’ve a roof terrace bright with flowers, as well as the very snuggliest box window seat. While Paddington noses around his marmalade cupboard, you can grab elevenses in delectable Kensington...
A family group
A couple who love to roam, your hosts are often away in Australia, where their son lives. She is a retired watercolourist, art historian and interior designer, who wrote a rather lovely book on Paddington Bear for her granddaughter.
Comings and goings at number thirty-two
Caught between Notting Hill and High Street Kensington, your location could hardly be bettered. Nor could your home, a splendid 1850s townhouse brimful of character. Sunshine and artwork fills the sitting room, but you may be more interested in what’s outside. With its cushy window seat, you’ve a grandstand view of the gorgeous houses across the way. You’ll find both sofas to be equally squishy, while the eclectic dining room flows into a small conservatory with a piano. Next door the spacious kitchen’s quirky cabinets were sourced from a church, and there’s some awesome artwork on the walls.
You’ve an original Paddington Bear print by the entrance, as well as two bedrooms to find. An array of antiques grace the master, as well as artwork and a loveably vintage ensuite. The top floor brings you to quaint double, and a skylit, sweet bathroom. But before you succumb to slumber, pad through the book-lined study to the roof terrace and drink to that duffel-coated bear...
Paddington steps out
