A rosy retreat Built in the mid-19th century and decorated to feel like a countryside cottage, this home is set back behind the street-facing buildings, through a charming communal courtyard, in the Upper East Side. The front door leads up two floors into the sitting room which has an exposed brick wall and hardwood floors (both are softened by white decor and a floral rug) and there is a striking black and white checkered floor in the connected kitchen, tucked away on the left. Back through the sitting room you’ll find the door to the master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. Botanical watercolours hang on the wall above the queen bed and there are floral decorations on the mirrored dresser. For fresh foliage, there’s the shared courtyard. The host loves to seek new thrills around the globe but when she returns home, she likes nothing more than to enjoy peace and serenity in the middle of the city.
