Age of invention The spirit of innovation is alive and well on the Lower East Side, where modern-day trendsetters navigate streets cluttered with unusual boutiques and hip cafés. And this avant-garde spirit seems to have drifted through the tall windows of Edison Loft, where there’s a palm-patterned accent wall, reclaimed wooden shelves, and unexpected taxidermy adding character in the calm sitting room. Forward thinkers The home’s oceanic art and antique metal canisters are a quiet nod to your hosts' international heritage. Bright ideas Vintage light sconces flank the low-slung ivory chaise longue in the sitting room, while brass Edison lamps impart a cheerful glow in the airy bedroom. The poppy-red hue of the iron bed frame is echoed in the efficient galley kitchen, where a wink of colour brightens the warm wooden shelves and minimal monochrome palette. And the wall’s clever cutout opens into the main living space, allowing for the easy exchange of big – or small – ideas.
