Every Londoner knows the Barbican. Housing an internationally famous concert hall, a cinema and arts centre, a library and two schools, this is where locals come for a shot of culture. Built in the 1960’s in the Brutalist style, apartments in the Barbican estate are hugely sought after for their exhilarating architecture, central location and stunning, stunning views.
On the outside Lauderdale Place is decidedly imposing. Inside, it’s all playful colour and bright sunshine. With floor to ceiling windows, a balcony that wraps around the length of the apartment, and a tube station just moments from your front door, this is a home perfectly designed for London living.
Your hosts met at the Slade School of Art. He produces special effects for film and TV, while she’s an artist who travels between the UK and her second home in Italy.
With its soaring lines and raw concrete, Lauderdale Place will have you gawping before you’re even inside. But its minimalist design conceals a host of home comforts, including a 24 hour porter, a private exit to the Barbican tube station, and even climate controlled heating.
Once inside, you’ll find a sunny sitting room, with funky, modern furniture. If your surroundings have piqued your interest in all things arty, then browse your hosts’ book collection. Otherwise, head into the sleek kitchen, or on into the bedrooms. The master’s a stylish double, and next door there’s a simple single, both kitted out in crisp luxury bedlinen. You’ve a private balcony, and downstairs, there’s a secure communal garden.
Face the music
And when you’re ready to venture forth, you needn’t go far to find amusement. With Europe’s largest arts and conference venue just downstairs, whether you fancy a classical concert or arthouse cinema, you may not even need to take your coat. And if you want to head further afield, you’re right in zone 1 and you’ve a tube station almost directly beneath you, so your travel time is truly minimal.
This iconic apartment building is conveniently located in the centre of town so do expect a certain level of noise when you open the windows.
Lauderdale Place is the perfect city pad for grown ups. It is not suitable for families with young children, but babes in arms are welcome.
Cancellation. Provided you book more than 7 days before the start of your stay, you can cancel your booking within 24 hours and we’ll provide a full refund. Check-in and check-out. We’ll meet you at the home at your convenience any time after 4PM on your arrival date, and our standard check-out time is 11AM. Early check-in and late check-out can be arranged in advance, subject to availability and a charge.
Lead guest. The lead guest must be at least 25 years of age.
I.D. check and card authorisation. When you arrive we’ll check the lead guest’s I.D. and secure a £1,000 hold on a credit or debit card which will be released once we confirm no damage was caused during your stay.
Smoking. Guests are not permitted to smoke inside any onefinestay home.
Cleaning. We carefully clean and prepare each home before you arrive and after you depart, and for stays longer than seven days we provide a complimentary weekly Housekeeping service. More frequent Housekeeping visits can be arranged on request, subject to availability and a charge.
Payment. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express, and bank transfers for stays with at least 7 days’ notice.
