Never never land
Step inside a world of pure imagination. This spacious home is graced with playful, mischievous, old-world touches from top to bottom. there are five floors in all, so that’s a lot of space to play with. Inspired by family life with young children, this home is one for big and little kids, and people who like to let their minds wander, safe in the knowledge that the modern, grown-up world is on the doorstep when they’re ready for it. And Ladbroke Grove, with its elegant, gentle, laid-back streets, is a soft return to reality.
Your hosts have three children, one of whom is named after a flower in the garden. You’ll have to explore and imagine which flower that is.
There are 11 rooms arranged over five floors, so there’s a lot of exploring to be done. Your hosts bought the flat next door and knocked through to extend the house, creating a spacious family home. Illustrations collected over the years are found all over the place, from old Winnie the Pooh drawings to contemporary newspaper cartoons. The playroom in the basement is huge and inviting, and packed full of toys. And there are large, comfortable living areas for playing and resting.
The master ensuite is wonderfully, cartoonishly big, with its own beautiful balcony. Lovely old-fashioned touches throughout the house, like the working fireplace and the roll-top bath, give this home its magical feel.
The living is easy in affluent Ladbroke Grove, but interesting too. It’s got some brilliant bohemian elements such as markets and vintage shops, the best of which are found on Portobello Road, which is just round the corner from St Lawrence Terrace. If you need to be in Central London it is about 25 minutes on the tube from nearby Ladbroke Grove tube station.
This is a beautiful family home, with a few signs of normal wear and tear.
