Degrees of indulgence
This spacious, geometric-inspired home is anything but square. Drawing on the airy demeanor of Venice, its straight lines and angled contours resolve into floor-to-vaulted-ceiling windows, filling its spaces with sunshine and providing a direct view of the back patio. Get a bite or a fix of java on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, a major axis of the area, then follow the grid towards the boardwalk. No matter where you go, things will shape up for fun.
One native Angeleno plus one native German equals a married host duo passionate about old films. Add two young boys to get the full sum of this family.
An acute sense of pleasure
Enter a world of precise opulence when you step through the door. On the first level you'll find a bright and open kitchen, living room, and dining space on top of beautiful wood flooring – sleek, shining surfaces that attach one room to the next. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in the living room are nearly as impressive as the view from the glass window that stretches the length of two walls and the height of the vaulted ceiling.
The three bedroom spaces on the second floor are contemporary cubes. Here you'll find two charming kids' bedrooms, one with a full-size bed and nearby bathroom, the other with a toddler's bed and cozy rocking chair. The presence of Legos compliments the modern, light-filled and colorful decor. Beyond the kids' quarters is the master bedroom with ensuite bath. A soothing white ambiance, perfectly square glass tiles and linear finishes mean minimalist indulgence throughout.
A fine line
It's once you get outside that you can really see the shape of things. Divide your time between a bike ride down Abbot Kinney Boulevard, a walk along the Venice Beach boardwalk, and a stroll through the canals. And also to factor in to the equation are excellent restaurants, shops, and people-watching opportunities.
While this home doesn't have a driveway, you should find street parking easy and convenient.
The bed in one of the upstairs bedrooms is now a twin sized bed, rather than the child's bed pictured.
The downstairs futon is not quite a twin and not quite a full (it's somewhere in between). It can be made up upon request and can sleep one adult. There is no closet available in the room where this futon is. As such, guests can just go 'round the corner and use the coat closet near the dining room.
