Pining for peace and quiet? Within whispering distance of Clapham Common, Pickets Street is perfect. This is a home of harmony and order, where every curve, every corner, every last line has been shaped to soothe the soul. The walls are the purest white, the chairs ghostly, the artwork at once mellow and modern. Be charmed by Tintin prints, be enlightened by shelves of books, or just be lazy and sprawl on the square-squishy sofa. With the leafy calm of Clapham waiting outside, it won’t be long until you’re feeling a oneness with all of London.
When they moved in, your hosts transformed Pickets Street into the modern and minimalist space it is today. She is an interior designer who loves clothes, fashion and art, he a banker from the Netherlands. Together, they love to travel – especially to Asia.
In the balance
There can be few homes as immaculate as this one, from the elegant hallway all the way to the soothing bedrooms. Eye up the artwork as you enter, before making your way to the mellow sitting room. Clean lines and cloud-white walls shine sweetly in the daylight, while a deep sofa and chic coffee table face a wall-mounted TV. Further on, you’ve a table with six ghost chairs, as well as a well-stocked kitchen.
A feature staircase curves stylishly up to the bedrooms, where you’ll find a coolly compact single, as well as a book-lined study with a pull-out bed, globe and lots of lovely Tintin memorabilia. The shower room is gleamingly new, while the master is graceful in grey – green-tiled and luxurious, its ensuite brims with our fancy White Company goodies.
The new you
Wedged between Wandsworth and Clapham Commons, you won’t be short on peace, quiet or picnicking spots. Those who like to shop should try Northcote Road, while gourmands who prefer their fare Michelin-starred must investigate Chez Bruce. You’ve both independent boutiques and famous brands to be found, or there’s the bright lights of town. The tube from Clapham South to Oxford Circus takes around twenty minutes.
There is no permanent storage space in the study bedroom, so we will set up a collapsible wardrobe for your stay.
