The thrill of the chase
If you like your urban surroundings bland, then may we politely suggest you look elsewhere? Not for the joyless, Camden Town is wild, funky and hip. If anywhere embodies the word eclectic, it's here. Crazy by day, groovy by night, this is the throbbing heart of the city's alternative scene - in Camden it's normal to be abnormal.
And, at its centre, old empire meets new groove in a home that'll have you purring with pleasure. Set in the lofty eaves of a Victorian schoolhouse, Prince of Wales Road boasts two comfortable double bedrooms, an open plan living space that's utterly spectacular, and interiors that are, quite simply, animal magic.
Our host is nothing if not well travelled. From Japan to Kashmir, from Ladakh to Thailand, she's been there, done that, and brought back a host of wonderful souvenirs. Hers is a colonial past; whether you love it or loathe it.
The lion sleeps tonight
With two reception rooms and two double bedrooms, there's space for the whole pride here. Your cubs will adore the colourful furnishings - from leopard print curtains to the zebra upholstery on the chairs, the wild is calling at every turn.
If chasing gazelles isn't quite your style, no need to change your spots. Instead, earn your stripes by filling the coolest Smeg fridge we've ever seen. The communal living space is large and airy, with a vaulted ceiling, a designer dining table seating twelve, and a vast sofa for that all-important post-feasting nap. Should the double-height ceiling not satisfy your urge for light, then fling open the doors to your own private balcony.
But if you yearn for a space more intimate, up on the mezzanine you'll find a cosy den, with a TV, desk and a stereo made by the good people of Bose. Groom yourself in the family bathroom with the aid of our scrumptious White Company toiletries.
The master bedroom boasts a genuine colonial bed and a light sculpture as soothing as a flock of fireflies. Upstairs there's another double, complete with private en suite. Outside, Camden's bustling into the small hours - if you want to go out on the prowl then you can, but with a bed this warm, we'll forgive you a very early night.
If a night on the tiles is your thing, then Camden is the place to be, whether you like your watering hole cool and slick or down and dirty, here's the place to find it.
During the day, Camden Lock bustles with London's punks, Goths, Emos and Vintage babes - think Harajuku with a dash of Britannia cool. The Stables Market will sell you everything from old lace to dim sum to an antique leather sofa; with hundreds of stalls here's a place where you can quite literally shop until you drop. Any collapsing you do can occur in the sunshine out on the open grasslands of nearby Regents Park or Hampstead Heath.
And if you need to get into town, you can be clawing at the doors of the National Gallery and it’s like in less than half an hour.
