Nothing to it
If you like to take things easy, our advice couldn’t be more straightforward. Call on Queenstown Road II. Tucked by Battersea Park, this riverside complex is as simple it gets. Water features trickle away downstairs, there’s hardly a need to leave you’ll feel so at home. The decor is bright and soothing, the bedrooms unbothered by the bustle and, on the balcony, you’ve all the sunlight you care to soak in. But you won’t want to take it too easy. Chelsea’s a river’s width away and the West End only a little further beyond...
A businessman, your host splits his time between London and Dubai. When he is town, he relishes the restaurants, museums and, of course, the closeness of Battersea Park.
Piece of cake
This is a home with everything on hand for an easy stay. The sitting room is as simple as it is inviting, with a honeyed wooden floor, pops of pretty yellow and two sofas in soft grey. Nestle into one awhile, or slide back the balcony doors and take a scenic seat. Below, you’ve an alley of trees and the whispering ambience of the water features. And, whether you’re pouring a refreshing drink or readying a romantic meal, the compact kitchen has everything you need, as well as a dinky dining table for two.
There’s a bright, floral freshness to the master bedroom, which boasts a little TV and pretty, pared back decor. Both the master ensuite and the bathroom are modern and light, and there’s a double with balcony access and elegant artwork.
Lapped by the Thames, Battersea Park might be London’s best-located lung – and you’re right opposite it. So stop off for a picnic, or nip across the river to Chelsea. Here you’ve the Royal Court Theatre, the Saatchi Gallery and the many snazzy boutiques and restaurants lining the King’s Road. Turn to South Kensington for the museums, Knightsbridge for the shopping and the West End for everything else. The tube from Sloane Square to Oxford Circus takes just over ten minutes.
