U Mulinu

Olmeto Plage, Propriano area

This windmill offers complete immersion in wild, authentic Corsica, where it as beautiful as it is peaceful. The windmill has been located on the old olive mill road, just below the village of Olmeto, since 1783. It was renovated with taste, and deep respect for the natural environment. From the coast, a small road then a pathway will take you to an alleyway bordered with lantana shrubs, heavy with the scent of maquis plants. A majestic palm tree welcomes you to the windmill, perfectly nestled in the tree-covered hills. A small river runs below the property, and can be reached via a lane from the garden.

In front of the house, there is a sunny stone patio perfect for breakfasts with the birds singing and cicadas chirping. The interior is very original, with Asian antique furniture, and you feel the striking charm from the front door.

The villa is 8km from Propriano, where you can discover the beautiful beaches in southern Corsica, stroll beside the sea, visit the picturesque villages, or go hiking in the mountains. The small beach resort at Olmeto-Plage is 5km along the road to Porto Pollo, and has a mini supermarket and a bakery. There are also several beachside restaurants and many coves with crystalline waters.

The beautifully picturesque village of Sartene, 6km from Propriano, is waiting for you with its small shopping roads that snake between the grey granite houses and the main square, where the residents meet for coffee on the terraces. Visit the church where the Catenaccio procession takes place, then take the road to Tizzano, a gorgeous little fishing port where you can try a delicious fish soup on a hanging terrace over the crystal clear turquoise water.

You can take the ferry from Marseille, or fly to Ajaccio or Figari which are 60km from Olmeto beach.

Dedicate a whole day to discover a jewel in south Corsica – Bonifacio, a town built into the white cliffs. A walk along the seafront will take you to the cliff caves, or the islands at Lavezzi, both nature reserves. You could also take a refreshing hike up the mountain or take one of the many forest pathways at Bavella… one week’s vacation won’t be enough to discover all of south Corsica’s natural resources!
