Rivedoux-Plage is the gateway to Ile de Re. It's a pretty seaside town with the largest bay on the island, a huge white sandy beach in the shape of a half-moon. The house is ten minutes' walk from the charming little port and the beach, at the end of a private and very quiet dead-end.
The house is typical of the island, low, semi-detached, and with a garden and pool hidden from view by a high white wall and a wooden fence. Recent construction, and with fantastic exposed beams, it already has the charm of warm family holiday homes, and is easy-going.
Light wood, warm shades, and a chic, natural decoration create undeniable character. The 8x4m pool, surrounded by a wood terrace, is the heart of the house. The layout of the bedrooms, with an independent studio, creates the perfect spot for families with older children.
All the rooms lead out to the garden or the pretty, flower-filled courtyard:
• Huge double aspect living space with living and dining rooms, and open American kitchen with all mod cons
• Terrace with outdoor dining area on the courtyard side
• Laundry room
• Three double bedrooms with queen size beds and ensuite shower rooms
• Studio with its own entrance, with a double bedroom, kitchen, sofa, and shower room
Linens, sheets, and towels are provided. The beds will be freshly made on arrival. You will find toiletries in the bathrooms and a gourmet food basket in the kitchen.
Rivedoux-Plage is on the far south of Ile de Re. It's the first village after the bridge, with a charming port and two huge beaches – one in the north, popular with kite-surfers, and the other in the south.
Originally an oyster-farming village, there are still many oyster farms in the north.
Ile de Re is considered a jewel on the French Atlantic coast, with moors, dunes, long sandy beaches, marshes, vineyards, and bird reserves. It's a cyclists' paradise, with numerous trails where you can discover the local fauna and flora, and travel easily between the different villages.
