A country-style classic Although centrally located (you’re very near South Kensington’s famous museum district), Stanhope Gardens IX has a rural feel. First along the hallway is the sitting room – a striking space with panelled walls, corniced ceilings and long, red-curtained windows. To one side here is a sitting area, where a sofa and two tapestry armchairs sit before a fireplace topped by a gilt mirror. To the other is a dining table, beyond which doors open onto a little terrace. Straight ahead of the front door is the kitchen, and then a hallway on the right leads to the other rooms. It runs past the soft-grey second bedroom and two bathrooms – both classic – to the master bedroom, at the end. This final room is decorated in pink and green, and has a double bed and gold-trimmed antique furnishings. It also opens onto a second terrace – flower-filled, with a wrought-iron table and chairs.
