Past is prologue
A modern take on the classic? It’s fair to say the Italians know a thing or two about that. But we’re not speaking of the Renaissance, rather of St George’s Drive V. As fresh as a glass of Frascati served chilled, this period home is present and correct. All has been refurbished, yet from the corniced ceilings down to the silvery bedsteads, you won’t find an original piece out of place. There’s a broody elegance to the black and white photography, while the airy sitting room would please any caffè-sipping sophisticate. As for Pimlico, it’s quiet, yet surprisingly central. Another welcome blend...
Make it new
Your Italian host makes a living restoring London homes in his own unique style. He loves to buy pieces at auction, and to marry the modern with the antique. He lives in Malta, but spends three months each year in the capital.
Classicists will acknowledge the splendour of this street, with its pillar-porched townhouses and icing-white stucco. And this is a home to match, with elegance in its every armchair and sash window. Handsome and high-ceilinged, the sitting room is both beautifully proportioned and exquisitely furnished. Here, you can take a whisky and soda on the sofa, eye up the excellent photography or pick up a Dickens in hardback. Four can dine at the polished table, that is, once dinner has been rustled up in the smoothly modern kitchen.
When nightfall draws you into the bedroom, you’ll find all manner of (modern) period features, from vintage wooden furniture to a silvery bedstead and twin lamps. But before you slip between the crisp sheets, be sure to sample our White Company goodies and fluffy towels in the stylish bathroom.
Halfway between the Thames and Buckingham Palace, London is all but on your doorstep. Turn one way for the world-class shopping of Chelsea, turn the other for Victoria’s many and varied restaurants. Perambulate through St James’s Park, sip an espresso in the shadow of Big Ben or take afternoon tea at the Ritz. The tube from Pimlico to Oxford Circus takes a tiny six minutes.
In some cases the host will allow children, toddlers and babies. Please ask our reservation team before booking.
This home doesn't have air conditioning. Between June and September, we'll place fans in each bedroom. Please let us know if you'd like fans outside the summer period.
