Avenue de Suffren

Eiffel Tower, Western Paris

Captivating collections

There’s nowhere in Paris more recognisable than the Eiffel Tower – close to the city’s most popular museums and galleries. And you're right in the thick of it, so the exhibition-worthy objects inside Avenue de Suffren should come as no surprise. Even the most delicate ornaments and artworks are shown to fine effect against the two-tone walls, and contemporary furniture – some muted, some a shock of orange – is just as thoughtfully arranged. In contest with their neighbour, towers of books vie for your attention – which might otherwise be transfixed by the window views of the Sacré Coeur and UNESCO building.

Masters of craft

Your hosts are shaping the world, whether that’s interiors, communications, or their remarkable eleven-year-old daughter’s craft company. They reformed their home, removing wall partitions, to create an open-plan space that’s engrossing and cultured.

Living museum

Despite Avenue de Suffren’s collection – the bust of an Egyptian cow, the gilt-framed oil painting, a mysterious gold-leaf tree trunk – there’s no museum stuffiness about this home. A good measure of contemporary design makes it dynamic as well as distinctive: the kitchen’s smart inbuilt units, the powder room’s bold orange wall (it’s a theme), the two bright and modern dining arrangements. And the area surrounding the Eiffel Tower has an energetic side too. With many bustling shops and restaurants on hand, and the tower itself just a short stroll away, Paris’ best is your exhibit.
