Lost in the Woods is a big Jackson Hole luxury vacation home built of massive peeled pine trunks, just a short and stunning drive from the small town of Wilson. Understated, spacious, welcoming, full of handcrafted furniture and gorgeous, rustic details, Lost in the Woods is an outstanding retreat for a family gathering or reunion of friends. Open, sunny rooms flow into each other with effortless elegance; intimate spaces encourage conversation, all of it suffused with the golden glow of natural wood and Wyoming sunshine.
Stone-floored entry foyer sets the easy-going tone of Lost in the Woods. Straight ahead is the Great Room; to the left the roomy kitchen, where pendant lights hang from the beamed ceiling and a long, granite-topped breakfast bar and separate center island provide plenty of workspace. French doors in the kitchen open to a dining porch, the wonderful outdoor fireplace and the forest beyond; a big, walk-in pantry is just beyond the fridge. A spectacular kitchen table handmade from a single four-foot-wide plank adds a dash of woodsy luxury to the space.
A vaulted Great Room stands at the center of the house, a welcoming and fire-lit crowd-pleaser at the end of a lively day. Deep club chairs and a handsome leather couch are gathered round a coffee table crafted from a slice of a giant tree. There is a hand-built stone fireplace, built-in cupboards and a flat screen television. A vast picture window marries the peaceful interior to the deep green forest outside. French doors lead to the deck.
There are seven large, welcoming bedrooms; the carpeted master suite is on the entry level, just off the Great Room. Its a spacious room with a traditional Western feel: hefty log walls, beamed ceiling and French doors leading to a private balcony. A big, hand-hewn bed stands in the center, piled with pillows. Tables and reading lamps flank the bed. In the master bathroom, a deep, jetted tub and double sinks have dark polished stone surround; there is a separate walk-in shower.
Upstairs, two large, light-filled bedrooms have striking, custom-made wood beds and private bathrooms, each with a walk-in shower. Between the two is a charming bedroom with two full beds, a big window and a deeply sloping beamed ceiling, a three-bears kind of place. A full bath is just outside, off the hallway.
The bottom floor of Lost in the Woods is hang-out central. The foot of the stairs arrives at a big open game room, with a crescent-shaped bar, plenty of barstools, and a full-size pool table; punched tin pendant lights add a bit of rustic dazzle. A trio of dark and handsome leather sofas faces a huge flat-screen television and just behind a sliding barn door is a home theater, with a long, low-slung sectional couch, a movie screen and state-of-the-art sound system.
Two bedrooms stand off the game room. The first has a big, cloud-soft bed topped with crisp cotton; the second has two hewn-wood twin beds, and a bathroom just off to the side. The whole downstairs is like a world of its own. A door opens out to the backyard, and of course, the hot tub.
Above the three-car garage is a private, spacious apartment, with a fully-equipped kitchen, a living room and a cheery, cabin-like bedroom with a king bed. Extra guests, visiting grandparents or anyone who might appreciate being off the beaten path will appreciate the apartments atmosphere of restful seclusion.
Lost in the Woods wide, wood deck is a staple of laid-back living, a sunnier version of the Great Room with a phenomenal, free-standing stone hearth and comfy seating area. With the fire blazing and hot chocolate in hand, the hot tub bubbling only a few yards away, winter can be a magical time to relax outdoors. Summer in Jackson Hole is pure joy, when the world-class ski trails turn to hiking and biking venues, the ice skating lakes and frozen streams turn to fabulous swimming and fishing holes, and Wyomings wildlife wakes up.
