Shower under a Frangipani tree, luxuriate in a cinnamon-walled spa or stroll down the hill to the beach. Kadju House is serene, relaxed and intimate. Overlooking a pristine crescent-shaped beach, the house offers five bedrooms (four of them en-suite), an Ayurvedic spa and an infinity pool with sweeping sea views. The design blends a simple tropical aesthetic with modern luxury. The four full-time staff include a gourmet chef. The house is located in a cashew grove just outside the fishing village of Tangalle and close to nature reserves and temples.
Enjoy great sea and garden views from any of the five bedroom, four with their own bathrooms and the fifth with access to the spa bathroom. The elegant minimalist design--understated elegance, subtle luxuries and an uncluttered attention to detail.
Kadju House provides endless opportunity for relaxation, pampering and rejuvenation. Organic food from the sea and garden is available for those seeking a detox; affiliated therapists can provide massages and Ayurvedic treatments in the spa and visiting and local yoga instructors offer private lessons at the house as well as group sessions at a nearby studio.
The garden and the living spaces have plenty of spots for reading, resting and contemplation. For an island of its size, Sri Lanka has made a remarkable contribution to world literature. There are many celebrated authors of Sri Lankan origin, such as Michael Ondaatje, Shyam Selvadurai and Romesh Gunesekera. The island has also inspired foreign writers, including Pablo Neruda, Paul Bowles, Arthur C Clarke and Leonard Woolf, who all lived and worked here for a time.
The vicinity offers numerous cultural attractions, including famous rock temples, living Buddhist monasteries and ruins of dynasties past. It is also famous for bird-watching, animal safaris and jungle tours. Parrots, fishing eagles and monkeys can be spotted from the pool terrace and peacocks often leave wet footprints on the floor of the pavilion. Affiliated naturalists can organise excursions to several renowned national parks in the vicinity.
Kadju House is about 190 km from Colombo. The drive from Colombo takes approximately three and a half hours using the new expressway connecting Colombo to Galle (this is dependent on the time of day - evenings and early mornings are best when traffic is less). There are interesting spots and diversions along the way. We particularly recommend a stop in Galle - a World Heritage site.
After the 191km marker post, proceed for another 800m, passing first a temple on the left then going over a little bridge and when the road veers right, one would see another temple. Take a right turn onto a Cement road on the sea side directly opposite the temple (Jayasumanaramaya) gate. Proceed up the road and The Kadju House is on the left at the end of the road.
