A wonderful air of seclusion is on offer at Palm Hill. Within a quiet residential neighbourhood on the high peninsula of Maria Bluff, about 20 steps lead down from a parking area to this giant villa, with tropical vegetation obscuring neighbouring homes. Around the other side, epic and unimpeded views west over Great Cruz Bay and beyond to the nearby isle of St Thomas are offered from the pool deck, followed by sunsets to die for. The prettily-tiled pool receives the sun all day from around 9 am, as well as the occasional passing iguana to provide added amusement. A row of loungers face the sea and are positioned to receive breezes, while a higher balcony terrace is covered to allow for shaded al fresco dining. Cruz Bay’s attractions and supermarkets are only a short drive away, as are those famous North Shore beaches. It all works very well for couples or families with older children. Should it rain one day, there’s ample space and distraction to relax indoors, too. Entered through sets of huge sliding doors, the great room has satellite TV and a DVD player alongside its open, mahogany-panelled kitchen – complete with a great blender, wine cooler and chef's fridge – and comfy sofas. Palm Hill’s three ensuite bedrooms are in an attached building, each with its own bathtub, air-conditioning, terrace access and, once again, fabulous views.
