Caneel Trailside Cottage sits one mile outside Cruz Bay, high up on the ridge in the saddle between Caneel Hill and Margaret Hill, adjacent to the Virgin Islands National Park. Forty yards from the backyard, through National Park land, is Caneel Hill Trail, which drops down to the secluded white sand beaches on the North Shore (Honeymoon Beach, Caneel Bay and Solomon Bay) in less than 45 minutes, and drops down to the town of Cruz Bay with a half-hour hike in the other direction. A 1/4-mile hike brings you to the Caneel Hill Observation Platform, where you can see a 360-degree view of both the Caribbean and Atlantic as well as the entire Western Half of St John. From Caneel Trailside Cottages doorstep you can literally hike through the forest to get everywhere you will need to be on the western half of St. John. A lush garden surrounds the private brick patio that encloses a swimming pool with teak poolside chaises and a barbecue area. A wide shaded veranda for outdoor dining and relaxing adds great space to enjoy the breeze and idle away from it all. The veranda looks out over the southwest end of St John and offers expansive views of the Caribbean all the way to St. Croix. The house was built in 2005 and everything is high quality, state of the art, and in perfect condition. The Great Room boasts teak furniture in the living area and amenities such as cable TV and stereo system. Stunning views are ever present though an entire wall of sliding glass doors. Always spectacular, the views can often include beautiful vistas of ST. Croix in the distance, over 48 miles to the south! The fully equipped kitchen is designed for maximum efficiency and has all of the amenities. Corian countertops and stainless steel appliances enhance the design. A large mahogany dining table in the Great Room comfortably seats 6. The inlaid table top adds an eclectic formality to the casual cottage. Dining alfresco is a wonderful option as well on the expansive covered deck. The villa has two bedroom suites on opposite sides of a great room. Each has a king-sized bed and its own en suite bathroom, individually zoned air conditioning, and private access to a porch overlooking the Caribbean. Each bedroom suite also has a full-sized closet, two built-in dressers, and somewhere comfortable to sit and relax.For families of four, one of the king beds can be converted to twins. For those rare afternoons when there is just a slight breeze, the outdoor ceiling fans are a perfect addition. Split air conditioners enhance the comfort in each bedroom. Rocking chairs grace an alcove in front of each bedroom wing and provide the perfect spot to savor morning coffee while watching the cruise ships pass by in he distance. The water view spans from the southwest to due west, broken by only the occasional island cay or cruise ship in the distance. Around to the side of the cottage, is the patio and pool deck which is set amongst tropical landscaping and offers comfortable lounge furniture. Caneel Trailside Cottage enjoys a wonderful location just one mile form Cruz Bay for great restaurants, shops, art galleries, dive shops etc. The perfect choice for one or two couples or a small family.
