Nestled in the Colorado mountains is one of the USA’s true gems. Breckenridge (‘Breck’ to the locals) started life as a rough, tough mining town in the 1850s. The sheer opulence of Grand Vista Lodge makes it pretty clear you’ve struck gold all over again. This mountain retreat is just five minutes drive from the town of Breckenridge and sits 9,975 feet (3040m) above sea level, giving it some of the best views in the area. It’s gloriously secluded too, situated at the end of a cul-de-sac, offering privacy for guests who want to escape the crowds. Step outside the grand entrance, and you're just a five-minute walk from the trail access to the ski trails for Beaver Run or the Quicksilver run for the more experienced skier. During the summer, the entire area is a hiker’s paradise, taking you along flower-lined trails scented by spruce trees and wild thyme. This year-round destination welcomes the adventurous, the outdoors lover, and the thoughtful, eco-tourist who wants all those homely touches but with as small a carbon footprint as possible. For EV owners, there's a charging station available and parking for up to five cars. The lodge has eight gloriously appointed bedrooms with six full-sized bathrooms and one washroom. The spectacular King of the Mountain king suite on the main level features a rock gas fireplace and oversize closet that’s big enough to take all your ski salopettes or evening attire. The Stardust Queen suite is on the lower level next to the den, while the upper level is home to the Bright Star king suite and a trundle room with two twin beds. The north wing’s lower level houses three bedrooms - the Twinkle Star queen, the North Star queen, and the Starburst bunk room. Those breathtaking views dominate every aspect of the Lodge, with the Great Room offering up some of the finest views of the wonderfully-named Baldy Mountain and Peak 10 from its floor-to-ceiling picture windows. The kitchen is packed with every gadget a gourmet chef could wish for, and outside the veranda includes an outdoor BBQ and grill for al fresco dining and a hot tub for those après-ski or post-hike soaks. The Lodge has ample space for larger groups or families, with a games room, den, and manicured gardens. This is a location that takes you far from the crowds and surrounds you with natural wonder, whatever time of the year you visit. Its vistas are truly spectacular (hence the name), and with the ability for advanced skiers to ski right up to the door, it’s the perfect choice for mountain lovers and outdoor adventurers.
