Mougins, Cannes area
Surrounded by an extensive and fabulously maintained garden, Villa Grande Jardin welcomes up to 12 guests who want to experience a traditional French farmhouse lifestyle first-hand. However, there's no compromise on the modern touches, with everything from fibre-optic internet connectivity and a tennis court to an ultra-chic Shaker kitchen stocked with all the latest gadgets. This villa has bags of personality, and rest assured, those gardens truly are ‘Grande’. Located just a few miles north of the villa is the perfume capital of France. Grasse is famous for its acres of lavender fields, gorgeous countryside and historic chateaux that dot the landscape. Head southeast, and you come to the Bay of Cannes and all the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera. But if it's true peace that you crave, Villa Grande Jardin has the perfect setting that will soothe your mind, body and soul. It's hard to describe just how beautiful the gardens surrounding this French mas really are. The villa dates back to 1841, so the gardens have had 180 years to grow and mature. The villa is packed with original features that have been sympathetically incorporated into a serene interior, where neutral tones allow the personality and quirkiness to shine through. The ground floor has that Shaker-style kitchen, an elegant dining room, and a large living area that combines contemporary décor with classical motifs. On the first floor, you'll find the first two bedrooms, both of which have king-size beds and terrace views, as well as ensuite bathrooms with rolltop soak tubs. The second floor has two more bedrooms, both of which have king-size beds. The master bedroom opens onto a private terrace with wonderful views. The remaining two bedrooms are located in the chapel. One has a king-size bed while the second has two singles and is ideal for younger visitors or staff. Outside, you can explore a garden full of surprises, including a tennis court, boule court and large swimming pool that can be heated on request. Go for a wander, and you'll also come across a lake and even a waterfall. A boulevard with 'paint-brush' trees takes you down to the pool, and an outdoor terrace is just the place for al fresco dining. Add in spectacular mountain vistas, a soft summer breeze and the scent of pine trees, and you have Villa Grande Jardin: a true masterpiece.
