Rock the Casbah
This sumptuous apartment is the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring the city souks. Voyage through interiors as dreamy as an Arabian night, past wood-carved buddhas and antique painted armadas. Whirl like a dervish on delicate persian rugs and relax on plush cushioned couches and mid century lounge chairs. Or attain a state of Zen in a beautiful Japanese soaking tub.
Your host is a photographer who shares this transcendent space with her daughter. A student of Eastern philosophy, her home is a perfect tribute to her expert eye and deep interest in meditation and mindfulness.
Your journey begins in the vaulted ceilings of the living quarters. Ride the Orient Express past the cushioned cream sofa, silver framed mirror and buffalo hide rug. Be enraptured among padded leather dining chairs, bird cage drop lights and a mesmerizing abstract canvas. Follow the Silk Road to where floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate a milk white couch and rustic dining table.
Profit from the spice trade among the marble-topped islands and stainless steel appliances of the fully-equipped kitchen. Or summon up a genie in the Aladdin's cave of the en suite master bedroom where the mahogany hues of the cushioned window seat and bed chest and the soft pinks of the delicate floral canvas surround a comfy queen-size. Then when your day is done take a Turkish bath in a muted gray, granite soaking tub.
Union Square is one of the best locales in the city for people-watching, with street performers, art vendors and a weekly farmer's market. Union Square is a subway hub that can put you in Times Square or Central Park in ten minutes.
