A river runs through it
West 13th Street II is that rare exception, a home that captures the richness of the wild, the bounty of nature, all in the heart of lightning-fast New York City. Mother Nature is everyplace in this one bedroom home, from gnarled driftwood and cairns of tumbled river stones to cacti, gorgeously striped plumes, and delicately woven birds’ nests.
Your host is a production stylist by trade, a jet setter who divides her time between Los Angeles and New York City. Whether she’s east or west, one thing’s forever certain: she’d rather be outdoors with the wind in her hair and the sand under her feet.
In the air
Let the tradewinds buoy you to the open-plan living and dining room, where glossy walnut reflects a rush of natural light. Brightly coloured carpets, open shelving, and a walk-in pantry give the kitchen a country cottage feel, while stainless steel appliances speak of city delights. A seafoam tablecloth creased as if by breeze and sun is offset by extraordinarily stylish seating.
If you’re an urban devotee, meditate on panoramic views of Manhattan; otherwise, gravitate toward the master bedroom, where a Buddhist shrine offers a peaceful beneficence. Here radiant citrine carpets flank cirrus-soft linens, a castle on a cloud that calls sonorously at day’s end. Concrete on one side, nature, the other: so who is inside and who is out?
The West Village is arguably New York City’s most desirable neighbourhood. Here you have easy access to the Chelsea arts and gallery scene, second to none, and the stylish Meatpacking District. If nature is your second nature, you’ll adore the West Village’s leafy streets. With the 8th Avenue L line and the 14th Street 1,2,3 lines nearby, you’ll be uptown or down in a matter of minutes.
The dishwasher in this home will not be functioning for guest stays.
This home is located in a coveted pre-war building in the West Village featuring beamed ceilings, large windows, and generous closet space. While the interior of the home is rustic and worn, it's country charm is a peaceful retreat in the big city.
Your host has ditched the bulky bed frame for a more minimalist mattress on the floor. Its simplicity is complimented by the calm, rustic furnishings surrounding it.
Guests should note that while the bed is very comfortable, there is no bed frame.
This home has air-conditioning in the sitting room and master bedroom.
This home has an open floor plan. As such, the bedroom is not closed off from the rest of the home.
