A hop, skip and a flap from the colourful plumage of the Venice Beach boardwalk is the inviting neighbourhood of Abbot Kinney, where a lively flock can always be found migrating from one vibrant tavern to the next. Smack-dab between there and the peaceful Pacific shore, your sunny two bedroom roost awaits.
Hen and drake
Long-time Venice residents, your hosts’ hearts soar for creativity. She’s a songbird in the making, learning to flutter the ivories when she’s not preening her prized garden. He’s got an eagle-eye for visual arts and spends time capturing his unique vantage point on camera and film.
A seabird’s perch
Throughout this earthy haven of tranquillity, a subtle avian theme will set bird lovers a-twittering, while muted natural tones and carefully placed seashells remind you that you’re not far from the beach. In the living room, an aquamarine-tinged coffee table presents starfish like a wave upon the shore, while a plush couch evokes the ocean’s velveteen sands. A sturdy wooden dining table stands just outside the large open kitchen, which features ample counter space for any recipes your mind hatches. If you’re in need of more areas to sleep, the den, which opens to a well-appointed patio, doubles as a private bedroom. And when it’s time to rest, a nap in the sun room is just as refreshing as a night in the master bed, as pure and white as a cloud above the treetops.
No need to wing it in this area of Venice – your quaint neighbourhood is entirely walkable, with a plethora of watering holes and seafood bars. Or, if biking gear is your preferred plumage, make your way to the nearby paths that span 22 miles along the beach, from Topanga to Palos Verdes.
