By their nature, ‘great rooms’ are sprawling and spacious; the one at Waiulu is especially massive, however. It features clearly delineated areas: a pastel-pale, rattan sofa area; a timber table for fun group meals; an excellent, wood-panelled kitchen that stretches around a corner. For all that, your eyes will irresistibly be drawn to the fully-retractable, picture window, looking over Hualālai’s Four Seasons resort towards the sea. It leads to a balcony for al fresco dining, aided by a second outdoor kitchen and barbecue.

You get another lounge, too, while the mammoth master suite opens directly onto its own private balcony. The third bedroom has two beds with children and families in mind; each chamber has a flatscreen TV and marble ensuite bathroom with tub. Chic touches proliferate here and throughout: vintage soda-company signs; storage ladders leaning against walls; blue feature wallpaper. Whereas most resort homes feel bland, Hualalai Resort - Waiulu 137D is homely and full of character.

You’re centrally located inside the resort, and its facilities can easily be enjoyed using two allocated golf buggies. They include the nearby Hualālai Sports Club – with its 25-metre pool, gym, spa and half-court basketball area – a sandy beach, a kids’ club and an additional, championship golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Daily resort guest fees will be charged; ask your dedicated concierge for details. Also available are watersports like canoeing and paddle boarding, eight tennis courts and restaurants ranging from Mediterranean-style to a seaside poke grill.

There is an additional resort fee to access amenities at the Sports Club and Four Seasons Hualalai Resort.
