Malatai provides perfect seaside breaks for large families or groups of friends. Though stately sculpted lions and lily ponds decorate its covered entrance, the gated villa’s rear is most impressive: beyond a large lawn (and fold-away fence) spawls a quiet beach, all sugar-white sand and aquamarine waters.

Eight single or double kayaks are available, too, along with life vests. Your butler – part of the devoted team also including a chef and bartender – can additionally arrange for water-skiing, windsurfing, sunset cruises and pretty much any other ocean adventure. Other options include visiting yogis or massage therapists and torchlit deck parties involving jerk chicken and a local mento band. Equally, you may just prefer to play tennis and basketball, settle scores in the pool-table gazebo or wallow in your free-form pool – complete with a partitioned kids section – and hot tub ahead of evening cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the veranda bar.

There’s an air-conditioned gym in a separate cottage, too, while the spacious main villa has indoor/outdoor dining and lounge spaces. Jatoba wood and marble lend a contemporary air, especially in the superb kitchen – whose Swiss coffee machines grind Blue Mountain beans whenever necessary. Sea views are a constant across all eight en-suite bedrooms and their decks. After visits to Dolphin Cove, Dunn’s River Falls or Ocho Rios, you can drift off to the sound of lapping waves.
