Cleverly built into rocky hillsides rising from the coast, contemporary Villa Samujana 17 is a pastel-pale vision of minimalist decor and designer furniture. Each of its four spacious sleeping quarters – two per floor – offers wonderful sea views from its bed, and each has its own private terrace plus rainfall showers and oversized bathtubs. At the villa’s heart is an open-plan living and dining area; neighbouring this is the glass-walled sitting room and its enormous plasma-screen TV.

There are plenty of play areas where groups or families can gather. Beside its lounger-lined sun deck, a saltwater infinity pool appears to flow straight into Choeng Mon’s turquoise bay. More wonderful vistas are available from the roof terrace, perfect for sunset cocktails, or whenever you laze in the ocean-facing outdoor lounge.

You get a terrific kitchen, too, but that might prove wholly academic: the dedicated, live-in staff which accompany the villa include a chef. Breakfast is complimentary, and other meals can be ordered whenever desired from his daily menu.

A brief saunter will have you on Choeng Mon’s sandy shore, bordered by bars and boutiques. The legendary Chaweng Beach is close by, as are waterfall hikes, elephant sanctuaries and jungly zip-line rides – outings to all of which the Samujana estate can arrange. Ditto massages or cooking classes, while the shared tennis court is open day and night. Your board includes airport transfers.
