Just a short distance from La Fontaine is the famous village of Gordes. This spectacular town appears to tumble down the hillside to the valley below. From the early Middle Ages, Gordes became an important monastic centre and even has its own 11th-century castle. From being the centre of the brave Resistance movement of WWII to becoming an artist’s colony in the post-war years, Gordes is a richly colourful town that just begs to be explored. Make sure you have an extra memory card for your camera, though, as the views from the castle are genuinely breathtaking.

La Fontaine is everything you could wish for in a Provencal villa, from the fragrant wisteria to the feature stone walls and original fireplace in the living room. Everywhere you look, there are sympathetically preserved reminders of the villa's history. A special feature is the covered outdoor dining area with its stone pizza oven and towering vaulted stone ceiling. The kitchen is a fusion of contemporary convenience and French farmhouse chic.

The bedrooms are serene and inviting and spread across three floors. On the ground floor is the master bedroom with a wonderfully indulgent California king-size bed and ensuite bathroom. On the second floor are another California king-size bedroom and a third bedroom with two cosy single beds. The remaining two bedrooms both have spacious California king-size beds for maximum relaxation, as well as ensuite bathrooms.

La Fontaine is set in ten hectares of land, and the outdoor spaces are superbly manicured and maintained. A covered and heated terrace adjacent to the house is the ideal spot for al fresco dining, while the heated swimming pool is inviting for those early-morning dips. A pétanque field, tennis table and a children’s soccer field ensure everyone has plenty of space to enjoy. Or seek out the secret picnic spot overlooking the olive orchards and vineyards of the Luberon Plain and watch the sun set on another gorgeous day at La Fontaine.
