Bamboo and palm trees flank three sides of Villa Sol y Mar’s huge teak deck, creating an indulgent feel of tropical intimacy. Visible from the infinity pool, meanwhile, the fourth side affords wonderful views down the lush hillside to Marigot Bay and the turquoise ocean beyond.
Inside, all is contemporary and calm. Installed by Francois Pécard, St Barts’ pre-eminent villa architect, the minimal design incorporates lots of clean white walls, dark woods and picture windows draw attention to all the vibrant green and blue outside. That’s the case across the long, open-plan ground floor space, combining a whizzy kitchen, group dining table and sofa area. There’s also a second lounge, which can function as a home cinema, and a small fitness room. Look out for beautiful chairs by Christian Liaigre and the long kitchen island which encourages socialising while meals are being concocted.
Perfect for groups of friends or large family groups, five ensuite, elegant bedrooms are scattered between the villa’s two floors. On the main level, you’ll find one with an exceptionally large bathroom and tub. Another two are downstairs, and the final, private pair situated in a small adjoining bungalow. All are suite-like in size and afford terrace space.
Their calm waters ideal for snorkelling, Marigot and Lorient’s protected beaches are only a few minutes’ drive away, as are countless boutique shops, elegant restaurants and surfing spots.
