Occupying a quiet spot on the Decugnano dei Barbi wine estate in the unspoilt countryside outside Orvieto is Villa Barbara. This spacious villa offers groups of up to ten a slice of the Umbrian landscape in which to soak up total peace and nature.

Behind an independent entrance gate is the light honey-hued stone exterior of five-bedroom Villa Barbara and the green expanse of its gardens. Make the most of having time to sit down and enjoy leisurely al fresco meals and drinks on the pretty portico terrace. A bonus of taking a refreshing dip in the large pool are the panoramic views of the picture-perfect surrounding hills.

The villa's interior is just as traditional, with tile floors, wood-beam ceilings and fresh, white walls that allow glimpses of exposed stone. Fine furniture, antiques and paintings grace many of the tastefully decorated rooms and add to the sense of history.

The ground-floor, open-plan living/dining room is elegant and refined. Comfortable seating and a dining table placed close to the grand fireplace dating back to the 17th century create a warm, inviting atmosphere. And the fully-equipped professional kitchen is a modern feature that's sure to please foodies.

One of the five ensuite bedrooms joins these living spaces on the ground floor, with the other four found on upper levels. A choice of king-size bed, double bed or twin beds is on offer; making the layout ideal for families with several children. Each bedroom is opulent in its own way, whether it's in small details such as ornate headboards or in lounge areas.
