While many of the Tryall Club resort’s villas line hillsides, single-floor Villa Sunset is a genuine beach house. Not only does it come with stripy fabrics and soft colours, but you also get a private – yes, private – stretch of sand only barefooted steps away. And then there’s that apt name: guests here can watch the sea turn pink each evening.

Don’t fancy the turquoise sea? No problem: Villa Sunset also offers an ocean-facing pool, one including a built-in hot tub and shallow ‘Baja ledge’ with loungers just underwater. Off this is the marble sun deck, plus a firepit, shaded sofas, an al fresco dining table and the flowery garden whose secluded bench suits meditation or reading. A bright lounge, entered via various fold-away doors, adheres to Caribbean architectural principles: high ceilings and airy spaces blurring the indoor and outdoor worlds.

Each of the five air-conditioned bedrooms is ensuite, and most feature open-air showers typical of the tropics. Two occupy a separate cottage – offering privacy to grandparents, teens or families within a family – and every one looks across gorgeous Montego Bay.

Ask Villa Sunset’s butler to arrange some golf, tennis, spa, kids-activity or beach-club reservations across the Tryall Club, and use complimentary golf carts to get around. Alternatively, have another staff member – the private chef – whip up some snacks, coffee or cocktails, and simply settle down to another day in paradise.
