A wreath is a Christmas tradition that dates back hundreds of years. We got together with our friends at Bloom & Wild to show you how to make a wreath with a 21st century twist. Take a look at their step-by-step guide.
STEP 1: GATHER YOUR GREENERY
First things first, make sure you've got all the materials.
We've chosen a Sasha letterbox bouquet – which contains all the greenery you need – and we’ve pulled some pine for a little extra festive charm.
We've also chosen a 400mm metal ring which can be found on any craft website, plus scissors and thin wire.
STEP 3: AFFIX BUNDLE TO RING
Once you've created your bundles of greenery, the next step is to fix them to the metal ring. Start by placing the base of the bundle against the ring. Using wire, wrap the base of the bundle and the ring together. To ensure the bundle follows the curve of the ring, attach the bundle a bit further up using the same method.
Depending on the length of your greenery bundle or your desired shape, you may need to attach it at a third point.
STEP 2: TIE A GREENERY BUNDLE
Use your scissors to trim some shorter pieces of greenery and bundle these together.
For best results, make sure that the lengths are varied and the stems are all together.
With the wire, tightly tie the bundle together at the base – you'll create a few of these bundles in total.
STEP 4: ADD A SECOND BUNDLE
Now for the final step.
Add a second bundle, with the tips of the greenery facing the opposite direction, repeating the same steps as above. To cover the bases of the bundles(and any wire, take a few spare bits of greenery (we like to use the thistle!) and attach over top.
Now all that's left to do is hang it in pride of place.
WHERE TO HANG YOUR WREATH
The traditional spot for a wreath is naturally the front of a door, but as this is a modern take on a Christmas classic, we've decided to think outside the box.
We made use of the stunning paned windows in this onefinestay home and hung the wreath on a vintage iron hook. You could also hang it over the fireplace or over the range cooker if you have one.
