Hosting guests on a hot summer’s day? Our Art Director and consummate hostess, Eleonora Valle, shows us how it’s done. Take a look at her tips for a backyard barbecue with a difference or a summertime soirée with friends and family.
Set the scene
It’s great to have a table laden with food and decoration at Christmas time, but in the summer, go for something simpler.
Flowers should feature for sure. Make sure to add some water to the vase – it’ll stop them wilting in the sun, and from tipping over in the breeze!
An aperol spritz or a negroni on the rocks is an elegant precursor to an exceptional evening. Perfect for sipping in the sun before food is served.
Choose a salad, livened up with some vivid colours for something a little lighter – perfect for a lunch in the sun. Gelato is one of my favourites for dessert, a refreshing finish to a meal.
La dolce vita
A white tablecloth is also great – it gives an occasion a summery, European feel. Don’t worry about ironing it, a crinkled linen tablecloth can keep things from feeling too formal!
