Today we spoke to the wonderful David Whiteside, our General Manager in London, to chat about his day-to-day work life, his dream holiday destination and how he has seen the company grow and develop during his seven years at onefinestay.
Give us a glimpse into the daily life of the London team.
The London Market Team is responsible for the complete delivery of the onefinestay offering from beginning to end, with three main parts. Firstly, our commercial division. We look after our homeowner's needs, from home services to availability to seasonal focus discussions and also ensuring that all our partnerships and product offerings are accessible to them.
Secondly, our service division, whose sole purpose is to ensure our guest have everything they need, this could be anything from an airport transfer to the home and making sure our guest have their favourite food and drinks pre-stocked in the home on arrival, to at-home spa treatments and private tours around London. If a guest needs us, we will always be there for them.
Lastly, our operations division deals with the end to end logistics, from procurement of the homes to warehousing any products and fleet to workforce needs - the operations team deals with it all. Having such a complex module and delivery system means we have to be agile and flexible in our everyday duties, but it also means no one day is the same which is what I love about the role.
You’ve been with the company for over 7 years, how have you seen the business grow?
When I joined onefinestay, we were in a small warehouse/office in Bowling Green Lane, surrounded by linen bags and safes and with teams doing several duties across multiple functions. Over the last seven years, we have grown and redefined our product offering and service and now have a truly expert understanding of what it takes to deliver a luxury curated experience.
Your favourite trip/destination? And why?
Cape Town, South Africa. I was lucky to visit Cape Town for a last-minute two week holiday and loved it, the people, the food and of course the views are just out of this world, standing at the top of Table Mountain and looking out over Cape Town was just amazing. Plus, experiencing this with my brother was extra special.
What’s your favourite onefinestay home in London?
St Luke's Street V - this beautiful two-bedroom home in the heart of Chelsea, just off the Fulham Road, comes complete with a great open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area - just perfect for socialising with a group of loved ones. There's also a lovely outside space and a great working desk to feel inspired while you work, if you have to that is.
Here at onefinestay, we are proud of our team culture and can-do spirit. How has this influenced your time at the company?
From when I started to who I am now, is miles apart - I'm a completely different person and this is down to my time at onefinestay. I have a better understanding of people and the end to end of a business than I ever had before. Working in many roles during my time and learning every day has certainly changed me for the better.
Why have you stayed with us for 7 years?
Two main reasons, the first is the product and brand - not just for our guests but our homeowners as well, plus the business is so diverse, which has given me the ability to grow not just as a person but professionally as well. The second reason is the people. I have never met or had the honour to work with so many incredible people as during my time at onefinestay. Super smart interns to high flying senior members, the connections created with my colleagues are some of my fondest memories while working at onefinestay. The saying "I stand on the shoulders of giants" is very apt here and explains what I love about onefinestay and why I have stayed for seven years.
