Originally hailing from Naples, Camilla d'Alfonso is a keen traveller and talented photographer with an eye for natural light and authentic settings. With a busy career as a fashion model before venturing into photography, Camilla has called many places home over the years including Naples, Havana, Los Angeles and, finally Paris, where she now resides with her husband and two young sons. We were very happy to host Camilla on a recent family visit to London, where she chose the magnificent Vernon Street in West Kensington as her base for the trip.

What made you choose onefinestay for your London trip?

"We travel a lot as a family and on some trips, my husband and I combine work meetings with sightseeing. When I am in an aesthetically pleasing place I work better and feel better. It’s comforting to come back home and not to a hotel after a long day and it’s amazing to see the kids discovering the homes for the first time. onefinestay offers beautiful homes and additional personalised services for a high-end experience."

Describe Vernon Street in three words

"Elegant, spacious and welcoming."

What were your favourite features of the home?

"I love that each bedroom has its own identity, the house is very well decorated, warm and family-friendly. There are books on every shelf of the house, the kids loved it. They also had breakfast with squirrels in the little garden."

Did you have a preferred place within the home?

"The kitchen is often my favourite place in the house as I love to cook, and the one in Vernon Street was beyond my expectations. It’s on the ground floor and close to the little garden and outside space, where my husband and I had a glass of wine every evening after our long walks in the city. The master bathroom was pretty amazing too."

Tell us more about the neighbourhood you stayed in - did you find any great local spots?

"The area is great, on our first morning we woke up with a fantastic breakfast basket courtesy of onefinestay and then we took a red bus straight to Hyde Park. When we came back we had dinner at the pub at the end of the street, The Cumberland Arms, very friendly staff with a beautiful atmosphere and delicious food."

"We also discovered a very good Indian Restaurant on our way home from the subway and there is also a really good GAIL's Bakery at Baron's Court about a 7-minute walk away from the house."

Did you have any "must-sees" for your visit to London?

"It was the first time for the twins so:

  • Natural History Museum
  • Science Museum
  • Hyde Park and St James Park
  • A walk along the Thames, visit the Tate Modern and Borough Market for lunch
  • Choosing Keeping near Covent Garden, possibly the most beautiful stationery shop ever seen."

And finally… where to next?

"This summer we are going to Italy and the Caribbean, but in December wherever onefinestay takes us, I look forward to exploring the other locations."
