We sat down with long-time London homeowner Martin Costello to explore the quiet appeal of his ever-popular Primrose Hill home—and to hear his perspective on what it’s been like opening his doors with Onefinestay.
We've been with onefinestay for about 14 years now, so we're very early adopters of this way of making the most of your home.
It’s a family home that we’re lucky to be able to share with other people. The lounge is extremely warm and autumnal. The kitchen is another great space - a nice, big room, and the table and chairs look out onto the church at the back. In fact, that church is where my wife and I got married in 1989.
We tend to make our home available when we're out of the country - we spend time overseas in the summer. We're retired, so it suits us to open the property up during that period. And summer in London is a good time for letting, because there are plenty of tourists visiting.
The house rules are a great help, as they allow us to set clear parameters around how the property is used. It makes us feel comfortable knowing we can put a rule in place. Really, it’s all about respecting someone else’s home in the same way you’d expect your own to be respected. And, by and large, all the guests we’ve had do exactly that - we get very good reviews.
The greeting policy is a very positive thing for us as homeowners, because you know the guests are effectively being screened when they arrive. At the same time, it’s reassuring for the guests, as they can be taken through some of the idiosyncrasies of the property.
We have referred friends to onefinestay, and they all have had a similar experience to ours - a seamless guest experience. We enjoy working with onefinestay because the quality is superb. When we come back after a let, we have the lovely linens, the soaps, the towels, and so forth. It’s a pleasure to walk in the door knowing that your place has been curated so well.
