Casa Ikal has a unique design and an ultra-special setting inside the pristine Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. The reserve is the largest protected area in the Mexican Caribbean and its name means ‘gate of heaven’, so you know you’re in for a treat when it comes to the natural surroundings. From the villa’s shore, you can swim to a thriving coral reef or jump on a boat to float down ancient Mayan canals.

This modern four-bedroom villa sits in a five-acre estate that fronts the beach and peaceful lagoon. Here, you can enjoy complete privacy - there are no other villas to be seen. Given its remarkable natural setting, sustainability is a big deal here and the villa aims to be carbon-neutral, running on solar and wind power as much as possible. Modern comforts aren’t overlooked, though; air-conditioning, cinema-style TVs and wifi are all provided.

Inside, there’s a large open-plan living/dining area with marble floors and a fully equipped kitchen. The four bedrooms each have a private ensuite bathroom. If that wasn’t enough, the stand-out feature here is the fibre-optic double-infinity pool on the rooftop, which boasts panoramic views of the ocean, lagoon and tropical vegetation.
