C’est La Vie makes the most of an incredible, indulgent setting, ten metres from Plum Bay’s white sands. Running the whole villa’s length, its beachside deck encompasses a huge, freeform heated pool, plus a Jacuzzi, a swim-up pool bar, heaps of hammocks, cocoon-like daybeds and sun loungers. There are also firepits and on-beach sofas, ideal for sunset drinks.

Under a portico is a sheltered lounge, ripe for lazy book-reading. Inside, large windows keep the Caribbean Sea close as guests relax in the open-plan main social area, where leather sofas and chairs face a colossal TV across from a gourmet, American-style kitchen and dining table. Amid restrained hues are eye-catching decorations – high heels here, steel fish there – between dramatic angles and exaggerated curves.

This bold, beautiful design continues in six luxurious bedrooms – which render C’est La Vie the perfect choice for groups of friends or large families. Half of them ring that terrace, with the rest secluded elsewhere; all have an en-suite bathtub and TVs, and three include an exotic shower. Nor do the villa’s amenities end there. Along with such modern installations as indoor/outdoor NUVO sound-system, guests receive free international calls and the rent includes a chef who’ll whip up wonderful Caribbean meals to order.

The location, in the gated community of Terres Basses, means you’re only a short drive from Marigot’s shops and brightly-coloured houses.
