The food is internationally recognised as a distinctive cuisine in its own right and is a fascinating combination of influences from Africa, Creole cooking, French and European dishes, and a home-grown island menu of flavours. The result is an eclectic experience that could almost overwhelm the first-time visitor, but instead reaches inside and touches your soul. Add perfect beaches and Jamaica’s luxury villas into the mix and you have the trip of a lifetime.

Discovery Bay, Jamaica’s historic heart
Discovery Bay is where Christopher Columbus is said to have landed on the island in 1494. This historically important and visually striking location on the north coast is also surrounded by natural wonders, such as the iconic Green Grotto Caves. Here, you can see relics of the original Taíno Arawak people who inhabited the island. Today, Discovery Bay is a major holiday hub, thanks to its breathtaking beaches, exceptional restaurants and luxury villas. Follow in the footsteps of one of history’s most famous explorers and explore Discovery Bay for yourself.
Montego Bay, a lively tropical paradise
Famous for its herds of wild hogs that roamed the bay when the Spanish arrived, Montego Bay, or MoBay as it’s known to the locals, is the second-largest city on the island and a famously popular destination for travellers from around the world. Thriving and vibrant, it’s full of markets, winding streets and boutiques that sit next to traditional Jamaican food shacks serving the best jerk chicken you’ll ever taste. The sweeping beaches that line the bay are perfect for swimming, with the most popular being Cornwall Beach, and Doctor’s Cave Beach.
Ocho Rios, bustling culture & cascading waterfalls
This busy port attracts thousands of visitors every year and is a lively, affluent town with plenty of things to see and do. Step away from the city streets and you’re quickly in lush jungles where waterfalls can be heard roaring in the distance. A visit to Dunn’s River Falls is a must or see the jungle from a different perspective on the chairlift at the Rainforest Adventures Mystic Mountain amusement park. At the end of the day, the town’s restaurants are welcoming, serving delicious and authentic Jamaican cuisine with a hearty glass of rum punch.
“Jamaica is truly a delight for the senses; this Caribbean island has something for everyone: from endless white sand beaches to cultural attractions and excellent live music venues. For the thrill-seekers in the group, the island offers plenty of activities, such as cannonballing in the local waterfalls.”

Best time to go
During spring: spring tends to be one of the cooler months in Jamaica, making it ideal if you want to explore in peace and discover a more tranquil side to island life. Up until the start of May, the weather is generally dry and warm with temperatures around 26°C (78°F), and spring is a great time to visit the island.
During summer: with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-30s°C (around 95°F) and the sea temperatures warming up to around 30°C (86°F), summer is the right time to come to the island for water sports and beach holidays. The attractions are in full swing, and the nightlife is exciting and vibrant with plenty of music and cultural festivals on offer.
During autumn: autumn in Jamaica brings similar temperatures to the rest of the year. There is the chance of a rain shower or two, but these are usually brief and heavy storms are rare. As November starts, the chance of inclement weather diminishes, and the island takes on a new sense of tranquillity under a cloudless blue sky.
During winter: during the winter months, the wind swings around to the north, bringing a slight drop in temperature and heralding the start of the dry season. In February, music lovers flock to the island to celebrate the life and music of Bob Marley, and the beaches fill up with families enjoying the pleasures of the ‘Island of Eternal Summer’.
How to get there
Make the journey as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport to your private luxury villa in Jamaica.
By plane
There are two main airports on the island, Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and Donald Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. For light aircraft, there are also smaller airports in Negril and Ocho Rios, as well as a small airport in Kingston that accepts charter flights and private aircraft.
By boat
Jamaica is a major cruise destination and is particularly busy with superyachts and cruise liners during the winter months. Fishing boats provide deep sea sport fishing and coastal tours and are a great way to see a different aspect of the island as well as access diving locations further offshore.
By car
Although car rental is available in Jamaica, the roads are narrow and there are not many north-south routes across the island. To avoid driving on the roads, your dedicated concierge can arrange private transportation to your Jamaica villa. Otherwise, taxis, known as ‘Route Taxis’, are plentiful. Look for licensed taxis that are marked by a ‘taxi’ sign spray-painted onto the bumper. If you are driving, bear in mind that in Jamaica you drive on the left.
Local tips
- Convert some money into local currency on arrival, as you will need some smaller bills or coins for souvenir shopping and tipping.
- Most tap water in Jamaica is safe to drink, but to be on the safe side, it is best to stick with bottled water.
- Avoid getting into taxis without red number plates as these are unlicensed, instead ask your concierge to organise a dedicated driver during your stay.
