Best time to go
During spring: Punta Mita has an advantage in that the seasons are very similar to one another. So, you’ll find spring in Punta Mita is warm, dry and with relatively little rainfall. If you do catch a shower, it will be brief and quickly replaced by sunshine. The Annual Punta Mita Carnival takes place in March, and you’ll also get to enjoy the Banderas Bay Regattas all through February and into the early part of March. May sees the Cultural Festival all month long, where you can find out more about the culture of Punta Mita and its Aztec roots.
During summer: throughout the summer the temperature sits at an average of around 28°C (82°F), with relatively low humidity and gentle winds. These conditions are ideal for a round of golf followed by a stroll along the beach, or a boat ride to one of the region’s exceptional dive spots. The water is warming up and dive visibility is very good.
During autumn: all through autumn the average temperature doesn’t really move from the 27-28°C (80-82°F) average, although you may notice a slight dip down to around 25°C (77°F) during November. If you’re here during mid-September, make sure you experience Charro Day, a cultural celebration of the Mexican Cowboys complete with parades and displays of roping and horsemanship.
During winter: this is whale-watching season as majestic humpback whales come to this area to calve. Guided whale-watching tours ensure that you get to see these magnificent creatures without disturbing them in any way. The weather is slightly cooler but you’re still more likely to see blue skies and endless sunny days than rain showers.
