Intriguing history, astonishing natural beauty, rich tradition and flavour-packed cuisine makes Mexico a thrilling location to escape to. In Punta Mita, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas, you’ll discover huge swathes of palm-strewn beaches bordered by private Mexico villas which wouldn’t look out of place on a movie screen. Flexible with your travel dates? The country’s calendar is filled with fabulous fiestas that celebrate its vibrant culture.
The third largest nation in North America, Mexico stretches out for nearly two million square kilometres and encompasses a whirlwind of landscapes and attraction-packed locales. Its Caribbean coastline is the domain of countless glittering beach resorts such as party-loving Cancun and bohemian Tulum — both sublime options for a Mexican villa escape. Alternatively, head west to uncover glamorous Cabo San Lucas or enjoy sunset strolls along Puerto Vallarta’s sweeping El Malecon boardwalk.

The coast may be adorned with blissful white-sand beaches and some of the most gorgeous villas in Mexico, but it's far from the nation’s only allure. Venture inland to uncover cacti-studded deserts, wild jungle scenery, and beautiful protected biospheres. There are also countless cities dripping in colourful colonial architecture to meander around, plus mesmerising ruins in places like Chichén Itzá and Teotihuacan.
Tucked away on the western tip of Banderas Bay and just a short hop from Puerto Vallarta is secluded Punta Mita. Sumptuous Mexican vacation rentals featuring private pools and easy access to white-sand coves embellish the resort’s dramatic coastline. For elevated Pacific Ocean vistas, there are a handful of spectacular hiking trails to tackle, plus numerous seaside eateries where you can savour fresh Mexican cuisine. This pretty peninsula has several world-class golf courses, too, while there’s a bounty of places to enjoy soothing spa treatments and sophisticated pre-dinner cocktails.
Popular Puerto Vallarta is Punta Mita’s livelier and much larger neighbour. The attractive Pacific Coast resort really hit the jackpot with its vast array of natural attractions — think soft-sand beaches and a turquoise ocean that’s teeming with rainbow-coloured coral reefs. There are also sensational shopping streets to wander down, in addition to dozens of glitzy nightlife venues scattered along El Malecon. If you’re craving an adventure, why not make the most of the water sports on Puerto Vallerta’s beaches?
A stunning location bordered by azure waves, lofty peaks, and the famous Mexican desert puts Cabo San Lucas high on the nation’s list of beach locales. It has a reputation for both blissful rest and relaxation and fabulous nightlife, plus it's on the doorstep of some of Baja California’s most scenic natural attractions. When you’re not lounging around your rental villa’s serene private pool, head into the heart of Cabo to sample delicious Bajan seafood dishes or hop on boat tours to enchanting Lovers Beach.
Sandy beaches and exclusive private villas are abundant along the Riviera Maya. The coastal region sits along the Yucatan Peninsula, and its sumptuous resorts all fringe the balmy Gulf of Mexico. Tranquil Tulum is the perfect destination to browse boutique handicraft stores, cool off in emerald-coloured cenotes (natural pools), and sip cocktails at barefoot beach bars. Just above it is laidback Playa del Carman, while ever-popular Cancun — with its bright white beaches — perches on the peninsula’s very northern tip.

“Electric colours, friendly locals, and gorgeous beaches are but a few of Mexico’s many charms. The country’s lively spirit and dazzling culture make it an ideal place to make memories that - like its vibrant hues - will last a lifetime.”

During spring: March and April are Mexico’s liveliest months thanks to the country’s popularity with party-loving Spring Breakers from the USA. By May, the rainy season has started, although you’ll still experience plenty of sunshine in southern beach holiday hotspots, including the Riviera Maya. It’s also the month of Cinco de Maya, a lively event (particularly in Puebla) which celebrates the country’s victory over France in 1862.
During summer: Mexico’s summer months may fall during the rainy season, but you can still look forward to plenty of sunshine. Showers tend to be short and mostly in the afternoons; simply retreat to your Mexico villa for a siesta when the clouds begin to appear. Humidity is high, and temperatures typically sit around 32℃ (90℉), so refreshing dips in the sea or pool are essential. It’s often cooler inland too, making city touring and excursions to historic temples great summer activities.
During autumn: early autumn is the height of the Caribbean hurricane season which can bring wet weather to resorts along Mexico’s east coast. Nevertheless, you’ll still experience some lovely sunny spells, plus the sea temperature is wonderfully balmy. There are plenty of celebrations to get involved with too, from countrywide Mexican Independence Day revelries in September to the legendary Day of the Dead parades across Central and Southern Mexico in late November.
During winter: December marks the beginning of Mexico’s dry season, so expect almost no rain and comfortable daily temperatures of around 24℃ to 28℃ (75℉ to 82℉). Beach lovers will be in their element in any one of the country’s divine resorts. It’s also a prime time for whale-watching, with boat trips recommended to watch humpbacks and blue whales migrating to Mexico’s shores.
Make the journey as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport or train station to your Mexican villa.
Flying into Mexico is the most convenient option thanks to the country’s international airports. You can fly directly to Cancun from various global destinations, while Los Cabos International Airport offers routes to and from major US and Canadian cities. Once you touch down, getting to your Mexico vacation rental is simple with pre-arranged transfer via your concierge.
Why not incorporate a cruise into your Mexican luxury villa getaway? Caribbean cruises often feature Mexico’s eastern coastal cities — including Playa del Carmen — on their itineraries. There are also various options along the Pacific Coast, including cruises between LA and Cabo San Lucas.
Depending on where you are visiting in Mexico, you might want to hire a car to explore the local area. Baja California and the Yucatan Peninsula are usually great places to drive thanks to well-maintained roads and regular petrol stations. As many roads aren’t well-lit, driving at night isn’t recommended. Car rental in Mexico requires various documentation, too. Ask your concierge to organise your car hire in advance to avoid any issues.
