The perfect stay
in Los Angeles
The City of Angels is, quite simply, extraordinary. From Hollywood glamour to laid-back hippy beaches, desert highways and urban excitement, it is a relentless rollercoaster of experiences. La La Land is tucked away between rolling hills, nature preserves and long white sand beaches. Secret stairways take you up through mid-century modern homes and away from the usual tourist trails. And there’s no doubt that LA is the place for the best Mexican food outside of Mexico. Our homes in Los Angeles give you the chance to live the American Dream for yourself.
If you’re starstruck, you’re in the right place. Expect to see film crews on the streets shooting scenes for the latest blockbuster. If you’re lucky, you may even get asked to be a background extra. There’s plenty of culture on offer at the Getty Center. Or find your inner hippy in nearby Venice, with a long boardwalk to roller-skate on, plenty of space for beach-front yoga and local farm-to-table restaurants to grab a fresh bite. If you’re a food lover, you’ve got Michelin-starred restaurants galore, authentic Korean and Mexican food, and more vegan restaurants than anywhere else in the USA. Or escape the concrete and steel and search for tide pools at Abalone Cove Beach in Palos Verdes for a reminder of California’s unspoilt beauty.

Best time to go
During spring: one of the best times to visit Los Angeles, as the blistering summer heat hasn’t yet hit. Temperatures range between 50-72°F (a chilly 10°C to around 22°C). From the Irish festival in March to the LA Marathon and quirky ‘Renaissance Faires’ every weekend through April and May, there’s plenty of family fun on offer.
During summer: a feature of the summer in LA is the ‘June Gloom’. It’s not as bad as it seems, just a blanket of fog caused by a combination of high water evaporation and the climbing temperatures. Head to Venice Beach or the ultra-trendy Manhattan Beach to escape the crowds and cool off. If you’re here in July, look out for some serious celebrations on the 4th of July for Independence Day.
During autumn: if you’re heading for one of our homes in Los Angeles, this is when SoCal takes on its more laid-back, relaxed persona. Autumn sees the crowds and the heat disappear with temperatures dipping down to more manageable levels at around the mid-70s°F (around 20-24°C). You have a cluster of celebrations in the autumn from Halloween and Columbus Day to Thanksgiving in November.
During winter: there’s some awesome skiing on offer in the winter. Head to Bear Mountain and the appropriately-named Snow Valley for some great powder and a great variety of runs. In the city, temperatures are down in the low 70s°F. Blow the cobwebs away with a walk along a deserted Malibu beach as the sun sinks below the horizon.
How to get there
Make the journey as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated Concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport or train station to your home.
By plane
There are five major commercial airports, but most flights land at Los Angeles International Airport, more commonly known simply as LAX. Your dedicated concierge will be able to pre-arrange limousine transfers to your home or villa in Los Angeles.
By private jet
As well as LAX, there are smaller airports in the greater LA area including Long Beach, Burbank, Orange County and LA/Ontario. All of these are ideal for private jets. Your dedicated concierge can work with your pilot to arrange flight plans and transfers to your Los Angeles home.
By car
Everyone in LA drives, and its freeways are legendary for bumper-to-bumper queues during rush hour. However, a car is essential for getting around this huge city. And if you want to explore California’s coast and national parks, your dedicated concierge can arrange car hire for you, from a 4x4 to a luxury coupe or sports car.
Local Tips
- Watch out for traffic - from one hour to the next, travel time can be doubled.
- Even though LA is a very sunny city and the weather is warm all year round, it gets cooler in the evening, so it's worth packing something warm in your suitcase.
- The customary tip rate is 15%–20% for waiters, hairdressers, and barbers, while the usual tip for taxi drivers is 10%.
