The perfect stay
in Indonesia

Stretching out along the equator and hosting some of the world’s most breathtaking beaches and luxurious villas, Indonesia is undeniably an impressive location. There are thousands of islands to take your pick of, some famed for extraordinary wildlife and others renowned for mystical temples and spirituality. Wherever you choose to go, you’ll find a warm welcome and world-class hospitality in every corner of this vibrant, effervescent country.

Adventure awaits in Indonesia. Regardless of what pace of getaway you’re craving, you’ll be blown away by its natural beauty. Venture to blissful Bali to admire tranquil rice fields, trek up to cascading waterfalls, and sample the tantalising local cuisine. The island also houses some of the most exquisite villas in Indonesia, with the majority nestled close to heavenly white-sand beaches. It’s also a paradise for outdoor activities, with its wild southern shorelines drawing in surfers from all over the globe.

Indonesia is a magnet for nature lovers thanks to its thriving coral reefs and cloud-covered jungles. If shopping and sightseeing by day and dining and revelling by night appeal, there’s plenty of bustling Balinese towns — including Ubud and Seminyak — that are worth a visit. Temple touring is another delightful possibility, while the unspoilt coastlines to the north provide an authentic desert island experience.

Things you can’t miss in Indonesia
  • Tuck into a Bali brunch - the island is home to some of the world's best brunch cafés meaning this is the perfect reward after getting up to admire one of the island’s spectacular sunrises.
  • Get a made-to-measure item to bring back home, Bali houses countless artisans specialising in different crafts and you can order custom-made items for reasonable prices.
  • While Bali may be renowned for partying, there is also a much calmer, healthier side to the island. From yoga ashrams and spas to snorkelling and scuba diving, this is a place where well-being and self-discovery take precedence.

Best time to go

  • During spring: Indonesia’s rainy season is slowly drawing to a close by early spring, making it an excellent time to admire the country’s lush scenery and enjoy some outdoor adventures. There’s also a host of cultural events to discover. Balinese New Year (Nyepi) typically occurs in late March, while Ubud hosts its annual Bali Spirit Festival - the largest arts and wellness event in Asia - in April. Sunseekers should hit the beach in May when the country typically experiences plenty of good weather.

  • During summer: July and August are some of the best weather months for an Indonesian vacation rental, thanks to low rainfall and daily temperatures of 28℃ (82℉). Look forward to lively beach parties and fabulous surfing conditions in locations like Java and Bali. For quieter beaches and a chance to swim alongside migrating whale sharks, book your luxury Indonesian villa getaway in June or September.

  • During autumn: mostly dry weather makes early autumn ideal for a beach escape. By mid-October, Indonesia’s northern regions begin to experience heavy rainfall, so it’s best to stay south or pack suitable wet weather gear. The rainy season is in full flow across Indonesia from November onwards, and humidity is high. There are still regular bursts of sunshine, plus it's a great time to view orangutans swinging through Sumatra’s jungles.

  • During winter: winter falls within Indonesia’s rainy season when sudden downpours are frequent. It’s still possible to hit the beach, especially if you head for more northerly destinations. Popular attractions, from temples to marketplaces, tend to be quieter in winter, although hiking trips and wildlife tours are limited.

How to get there

Make the journey as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport or bus station to your Indonesian villa.

By plane

There are several airports scattered around Indonesia, with flights arriving daily from all over the globe. Lombok and Bali are home to international transport hubs, while Jakarta’s major airport gives you access to Java. You could also catch a flight to Surabaya airport if your Indonesian villa sits on the island’s east side. Many smaller Indonesian destinations are also accessible by domestic flight or private transfer.

By boat

A handful of cruise ship companies stop off in Indonesia, plus there are international ferry crossings between Singapore and Malaysia. Many of Indonesia’s smaller islands can only be reached by boat, including the gorgeous Gili Islands. You can also island-hop around the pristine Nusa Islands or sail to Komodo Island to glimpse its iconic dragons.

By car

Hiring a car is a popular way to get around Indonesia’s larger islands. Bali is easy to explore by road (although congestion can be a problem in some parts of the island) and car rental is possible directly from the airport. You can also arrange car hire through your villa concierge if you only want a vehicle for a few days of your stay.

Local tips

  • Buy a SIM card at a local mini-mart upon arrival in order to have access to the internet for directions and other needs, as public wifi is not readily available everywhere on the island.
  • For most tourists, visas are issued upon arrival in Indonesia. Make sure to have a return ticket booked in advance as the immigration services may ask to see it. We highly recommend opting for fast-track airport services (which your dedicated concierge can arrange) as this will enable you to move quickly and easily through the immigration process.
  • Be sure to have access to bottled water at all times, as the local tap water is not suitable for drinking.
