The perfect stay
in Belize

The former colony of British Honduras is a remarkable mix of ancient pyramids, lush jungles, and glorious beaches. The balmy, sunny Caribbean coastline is lined with soft sandy beaches and whispering palm trees where you can lose a whole afternoon simply snoozing in a hammock. But with so much more to offer, Belize is a country that begs to be explored.

Ancient home of the Mayan people, Belize is proud of its culture and history. Indeed, Mayan influences can be seen everywhere you turn: from design and textiles to language and cuisine. And the rich cultural heritage doesn’t stop there: Belize is an exquisitely diverse place with Afro-Caribbean, German and even Lebanese communities woven into its rich tapestry. A holiday here is a wonderful experience that takes you from the warm Caribbean Sea and the dense forests of the interior to the towering Mayan pyramids and beautifully-preserved remains of Xunantunich.

Our Belize vacation rentals allow you to explore the attractions of this unique country, providing an opulent base where you can relax and enjoy the tropical heat, or plan excursions to discover new wonders each day. With deep-sea fishing, water sports, jungle adventures and proud, friendly locals who welcome visitors with open arms, Belize will enchant you from the moment you arrive.

Our insider tips for Belize

“I'll never forget diving in the famous 'blue hole' - one of Belize’s many unique spots. There is also nothing quite like exploring the majestic underwater formations in the Belize barrier reef, swimming alongside shoals of colourful fish.”

Best time to go

  • During spring: spring is one of the best seasons to visit Belize, with dry weather and plenty of sunshine. Temperatures average around 28°C (82°F) and drop down to around 20°C (68°F) in the evening, making it comfortable but not too cool. The dry weather stays in place until May, and you’ll find plenty of festivals and events on offer during the spring months.

  • During summer: the summer months in Belize see more rainfall, but the showers usually pass quickly to be replaced by sunny weather. The temperature climbs a couple of degrees, and the Caribbean Sea is also warmer and perfect for swimming and diving at this time of the year. If you love your food, the Lobster Festival takes place during June, a real treat for seafood aficionados.

  • During autumn: autumn in Belize is very similar to summer, with daytime temperatures sitting at around 30°C (86°F), while the sea temperature reaches a balmy 28-29°C (82-84°F). The big celebration is on September 21st Independence Day, with fireworks and plenty of music and dance festivals to enjoy.

  • During winter: after the rains of autumn have cleared, winter in Belize is fresher and cooler, with average daytime temperatures around 23°C (73°F) in the north, and 27°C (81°F) elsewhere. Villas in Belize are available all year round and are the perfect destination for a festive break over Christmas and New Year, which is celebrated in real style in Central America.

How to get there

Make the journey as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport to your Belize villa.

By plane

The main route into the country by plane is via Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport, close to Belize City, which takes direct international flights from the USA and Central America. If you are renting a Belize villa, your concierge will be able to arrange transfers and car hire on your arrival.

By boat

Belize does not have a Pacific coastline so all boats come in through the Caribbean Sea. It is a major cruise destination but there are also fleets of smaller boats and yachts that can be hired to explore the many coves, inlets and secret beaches along the coast.

By car

Belize is a relatively small country and easy to explore by car. The main highway is the Northern Highway which begins at the border with Mexico and runs down through the country to the Guatemalan border. The alternative is the Hummingbird Highway, which is older and runs to the south of the country and is probably best tackled with a 4x4 vehicle. Remember that driving is on the right side of the road in Belize.

Local tips

  • The local currency in Belize is called the Belizean dollar (BZD), although US dollars are widely accepted.
  • Bottled water is a must in Belize: it is not recommended to drink tap water unless you are sure it has been purified and boiled.
  • The dress code in Belize is fairly relaxed, with shorts and sandals often being appropriate for most formal occasions.
