The three main islands of St Croix, St Thomas, and St John are home to National Parks, reserves and natural attractions that showcase the flora and fauna of the USVI’s. From prehistoric sites that let you glimpse into the island’s past to elegant colonial towns inspired by northern European architecture, there are a wealth of attractions to see. And at the end of another day in paradise, it’s time to stroll along a deserted beach, the warm sand between your toes, as the sunset paints the sky in golds and purples.
- Visit several of the United States Virgin Islands during your getaway - we recommend checking out both St Thomas and St John, each of which has its own distinctive appeal and vibe.
- Embark on a sunrise or sunset hike up to Bordeaux Point in St John for some of the most incredible views of the island below.
- Make sure you leave some time to enjoy St John's world-famous beaches, such as Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, and Salt Pond Bay.

St John, a peaceful natural haven
The smallest and arguably the prettiest of the USVI, St John is a charming and relaxed little island where the emphasis is on lazy days in the sun and chilled-out evenings gazing at the stars from the terrace of your US Virgin Islands rental villa. Spread across 60% of the island is the Virgin Islands National Park, where you’ll find miles of hiking trails to explore. Some of the smaller bays, such as Denis Bay, are practically deserted, giving you the perfect tropical beach all to yourself.
“There is nothing quite like the sensation of sinking your toes into the powder white sand and splashing into the turquoise waters encircling the US Virgin Islands. Alongside breathtaking beaches, you can expect to come across endless beautiful flora and fauna in the island's many national parks.”

Best time to go
During spring: the spring months are a quiet time in the USVI and is the time when seasoned travellers who know the region book a rental villa on the islands. The temperature hovers around the mid to high-20s° (around 75 – 80°F) and while the sea temperature is lower than in the autumn and winter at around 26°C (79°F), it’s still pleasantly warm and clear for snorkelling.
During summer: summer sees the temperatures climb up into the low 30s°C (around 88-90°F), and you may encounter the occasional shower. However, these are brief, surprisingly warm, and soon evaporate to leave you with crystal-clear blue skies once again.
During autumn: with warm water for swimming and higher temperatures, autumn in the USVI is balmy and tranquil. However, you may encounter the occasional rainy day (it’s essential to keep those rainforests looking so lush and green). Once the clouds disappear, you’re left with a freshness and warmth that makes it a great time for exploring the interior before heading back to your luxury villa or vacation rental in the evening.
During winter: December marks the start of the dry season, guaranteeing you perfect weather for long, relaxing days on the beach. The temperature sits in the high 20s to low 30s°C (75 – 85°F) and the sea temperature is around 27°C (81°F). The restaurants, beaches and entertainment are all buzzing, and you’ll even see more wildlife, especially migrating whales that pass by the islands at this time of the year.

Local tips
- The US Dollar is the official current of the USVI, and most places will not accept anything else. ATMs are few and far between on the islands, so it's best to bring some currency with you on your trip.
- US citizens do not require a passport to visit the US Virgin Islands, however one is required to visit the neighbouring British Virgin Islands.
- Have some cash on hand as a majority of smaller vendors and local establishments only accept cash.
